Per Bødker Andersen, President of UBC
The news of Paweł’s death came as shock to me. It is so painful to accept that he is gone! There are no words to express my grief and sorrow.
Please convey my deepest sympathy to his family, friends, co-workers. I am with them in my thoughts in this difficult moments. I stand in solidarity with all Gdańsk inhabitants, in condemnation of this act of violence.
It is a great loss for the city of Gdańsk – his love and passion. He was so devoted to his work for all citizens, always ready to listen to every single man. Warm, open-minded and very brave he turned his duties to be the mission to build a real European city based on such democratic values, as freedom, solidarity, respect and tolerance. I hope his work will be continued.
It is a great loss to me, too. Paweł was my friend in the European Committee of the Regions. He was always committed to such issues as social inclusion and human rights. He strongly supported the cities’ co-operation within the Union of the Baltic Cities. The UBC Secretariat has been generously hosted by the city of Gdańsk.
He will never be forgotten.

Viktor Koshelev, Kaliningrad Region
With deep feelings of regret I learned about the death of Paweł Adamowicz, the unchanged mayor of the city of Gdansk over the past 20 years. This villainous murder shocked the citizens of Poland and the whole world community. Residents of the neighboring Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation are deeply saddened by his death. The population of the oldest Polish city of Gdansk six times rendered him confidence during the elections for the post of mayor of the administrative center of the Pomeranian province. Such political longevity with the support of the people shows
his high professional level, sensitive attitude to the needs of people, faithfully pursued policies in the life of the city for the benefit of its people and its many guests.
I express my sympathy to his family, relatives and all friends and comrades, colleagues in joint work.
