The Night of Museums

The Night of Museums

The city community, youth, soldiers, music groups will take part in the commemoration. They will march from Laisvės Square to the museum.

The Night of Museums is an event taking place once a year. At not traditional time, in the space of the museum the staff of cultural institutions gather. They are museum people, theatre people, musicians. All of them donate an event to all: youth, families, seniors, those cherishing traditions and enjoying active free time.

It is a traditional event where the best performances of professional theatres are presented. It is a unique project of Aukštaitija region providing the possibility the visitors of Panevėžys City and the surrounding districts to get acquainted with creative works of Lithuanian theatres and the theatres from abroad.
 

Shrove Tuesday

Shrove Tuesday

It is the celebration dedicated to mark the end of calendar winter. A colouful fair will be organised. In small yeards, Lašininis, Kanapinis (traditional figures of the carnival), Jews, Gypsies and other caricature masks will be waiting for people to enjoy the festive event. Pancakes will be made. Most of the time people dance around the bonfires, play traditional Lithuanian games, sing various songs.  The most beautiful masks will be selected and the awards will be handed over.

Christmas City Tartu

In Tartu, Christmas comes early each year! On the first Advent Sunday, the Christmas City is opened on the Town Hall Square to brighten up the dark season and bring Christmas joy to everyone. The festive season offers concerts, museum workshops, dance festival in the wintry city centre and the traditional Christmas Market with the most delicious handmade gingerbread cookies, hot drinks to keep you warm as well as other homemade treats and handicrafts.

From 24 to 26 August, Tartu is buzzing with excitement and bohemian festival vibes, more so than usual. Aparaaditehas, or the Widget Factory, welcomes creative, imaginative and enterprising friends to organise together an extraordinary and entertaining festival. The festival, which takes place in an old factory that has been turned into a culture centre, offers a wide range of events from night cinema sessions, concerts and sports competitions to pop-up cafes, workshops, tours and great bargains at the flea market.

In the middle of August, Tartu celebrates Estonian food, our local fresh produce and excellent wine with Tartu Food and Wine Festival. In addition to a number of cafes and restaurants presenting delicious snacks and dishes, the 3-day festivities include concerts, workshops and various family-friendly entertainment programmes. The last day of the festival is dedicated to the enthusiastic and generous community members who welcome visitors to their homes for amazing and tasty treats in their pop-up cafes. That truly is once-in-a-lifetime experience!
