Folklore festival “St. George day”
Jurginės (St. George day) in Palanga is the most beautiful time of the year when the land releases greenery. In a fun festival of awakening nature, folk groups create an exceptional mood by celebrating all Lithuanian dialects. During the celebration you can get acquainted with the customs and culinary heritage of various regions, traditional dances and various instruments. Events take place in squares and streets, schools, libraries and cafes. The spring songs, choir Lithuanian folk songs, music of horns, pipes, bagpipes and other folk instruments are adjusted for the landscape and are heard at the most beautiful corners of the park.
Last year, the Palanga Culture and Youth Center Folklore Ensemble “Mėguva” was presented with an exclusive certificate, that Jurginės, held every year on April 23rd in the resort, was included in the Compendium of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Lithuania.
