Katarzyna Jankowiak’s exhibition The Green
Katarzyna Jankowiak’s work explores the eternal relationship between art and nature. The artist’s individual exhibition at PGS presents paintings and works on paper, as well as video projections, the common denominator of which is green in its various variants: from dark, deep and saturated, through poisonously intense, to light, approaching yellow.
It is a color associated with vegetation, vegetation processes and vitality. In the background there is inspiration from the landscape: fields of grain waving in the wind, meadows, forests. Taking nature as a starting point, the paintings abstract from mimetic representations and strive for synthesis, offering viewers something like its condensed essence. They are almost monochromatic, painted with repetitive gestures, saturated with a rhythm that hypnotizes us and draws us in as we follow every trace of the brush strokes and realize that on the surfaces they transform into what grows-Other. In turn, watercolors are for Jankowiak a place for analyzing individual elements of nature, also viewed on a micro scale.
