Barcelona Flamenco Ballet: Carmen (ESP)
The dance company Barcelona Flamenco Ballet is one of the most recognized flamenco dance groups in Spain. Characterized by their energetic, passionate and virtuosic style, they consist of a group of very talented dancers, musicians and singers. In “Carmen” the intensity of flamenco is combined with the magic of Bizet’s classic opera. The iconic characters of Carmen and Don José are portrayed through powerful flamenco dance. Through the elegance and expressiveness of the dance, the audience is transported to the lively atmosphere of 19th-century Spain – an unforgettable evening filled with passion, drama and first-class flamenco art.
Barcelona Flamenco Ballet’s combination of jazz, contemporary and of course flamenco dance results in a completely innovative presence on stage, filled with emotion and energy. The group’s choreography is elegant and complex and their sense of rhythm and harmony is impressive. The metallic tapping of the dancers’ footwork, rhythmic hand clapping and sensual body movements create an electric tension that touches the depths. They create a sense of mystery, danger, passion, fear, pain and blood – all characteristics of Spain as a nation and Spanish identity. In this way, Barcelona Flamenco Ballet is not just a dance performance but a work of art. Five dancers and three musicians take part on stage. The performance is about 80 minutes and is played without a break.
