The seven-member group The Watercolors paints elegant jazz watercolors. The composition’s chord palette, enriched by strings and oboe, includes the changing tones of both Western art music and European contemporary jazz. Founded in 2018, The Watercolors is a septet interpreting the compositions of woodwind player Janne Saarinen, whose unique composition includes oboe, violin, viola, cello, vibraphone, double bass and drums. The band’s melodic music combines spontaneous improvisation, rich harmonies and swinging rhythms, and on the other hand, the smooth timbres familiar from art music. The Watercolors released their self-titled debut album in 2021. With the just-released album La grande Odyssée, The Watercolors continues their strong and fresh musical journey.
