The event is co-organised by the Region of Gotland and JTP Groundwork, one of the capacity-building services of the Just Transition Platform, on behalf of the European Commission Directorate General for Regional and Urban Policy. It builds on previous activities launched by the European Commission to engage and build capacity in Gotland.

The event is the third in a new event series, called Technical Regional Forums (TRF), designed to provide space for exchange, knowledge sharing, and networking. The TRF will feature panels, hands-on workshops, and a site visit, gathering about 120 participants to exchange on the specific challenges of attracting and developing skills in peripheral and island communities, approaches to develop skilled labour, showcase examples from JTF regions close to the Baltic Sea and other peripheral regions.
