Call for stories: “Improving health and well-being through inclusion and sport in Baltic Cities”

>> The deadline for stories to the Bulletin is 29 November 2021.
Please see further instructions below in “Writer’s guidelines”.

Theme of the Bulletin

Our local communities have struggled through the global pandemic. Contact bans, events with distance rules and no warm greetings among people are just a few examples of how our life is influenced by the virus. This mainly effects the elderly generation as well as children, socially disadvantaged and disabled people without a social network. Sport and inclusion are the central issues that can revive our social interaction and at the same time create a healthy and active society. Let´s look positively into the future and create a livable environment for our cities´ residents.

We ask for stories in one or more of the following questions/themes:
How can Baltic Cities:

  • promote and support sport as means of inclusion and health
  • stimulate innovation in the field of sport and inclusion
  • offer digital solutions to improve social interaction and sport
  • improve the health and well-being of children and young adults after the pandemic
  • bring together different generations to promote mutual understanding
  • improve accessibility of sport and free time activities for disabled people
  • create awareness and understanding between people with and without disabilities
  • support volunteer work as a tool to create an inclusive and happy community

Please do not hesitate to be in touch if you would prefer some other approach to the theme or in case of any other questions: irene.pendolin@turku.fi

Writer’s guidelines

Please deliver the story by e-mail to: irene.pendolin@turku.fi in MS WORD format. A confirmation of reception will be sent to you. Lack of confirmation means that the message is not delivered.

Each member city can submit two articles – one related to the theme of the Bulletin and one to the chapter “News from Member Cities”. All stories should be sent in English.
Each article may have max 400 words, no more than 1 page A4. The editorial board sometimes needs to shorten the stories in order to include more stories into the Bulletin. It is also important to include the author’s name and contact details for any follow-up questions related to the story.

Please make all efforts to include 1–2 good quality photos to illustrate the article (JPG format, one e-mail – one picture, the file should not exceed 3 MB).

The deadline for stories to the Bulletin is 29 November 2021. Please respect this timetable so that we are able to publish the Bulletin on time!

The Bulletin will be published online. See previous Bulletins for examples of stories: https://ubc.net/publications
