Call for stories to the Baltic Cities Bulletin Spring 2025

Deadline for sending stories to the Bulletin is 7 March 2025.

Theme of the Bulletin: “Creating healthy urban environments in Baltic Sea cities”

Our region is constantly growing, through sustainable investments and rapidly growing economies we ensure that our citizens enjoy better living conditions every year. The UBC members present good practices, case studies, innovations in design/construction, examples of multifunctional design buildings, creative ideas for regeneration of abandoned areas and implementation of modern urban solutions.

This edition of the bulletin is dedicated to sharing the value that our member cities create and will create in the near future. This is the driving force of investment and knowledge that we need to share between the UBC members and other cities in Europe and the world.

Impacts of climate change, demographic changes, pandemic, Russia’s invasion on Ukraine, economic situation require integrated considerations in spatial planning processes in cities. In these challenging times, the investment plans are being implemented in Baltic Sea cities. At the same time the cities do not cease in their efforts to ensure sustainability, resilience, security and affordability both in spatial planning and building design.

We can all agree, however, that it all comes down to physical, mental and social health. Both urban planning and architecture need to be environmentally responsible in creating healthy conditions for living, working, entertaining, learning, relaxing, integrating and moving. After all, in the natural and healthy environment people have an opportunity to be well, too.

Join the knowledge exchange with your peers by sending stories along the following themes and beyond:

•    Designing places for living, (new?) urban standards, affordable housing and urban regeneration.
•    The changing face of business districts. How are we moving forward to reshape the places for work in the cities?
•    Public utility buildings – collective well-being and the sense of belonging through participatory processes.
•    Sport facilities and entertainment destinations, challenges and opportunities in developing sports venues.
•    Spatial planning and its consequences for urban transport and mobility. New solutions and investments.
•    New innovative solutions in renewable energy aimed at reducing carbon emissions.
•    How urban greenery influences human health?
•    Places for social integration and building the community – new roles and challenges for public space.

Young people of the UBC member cities are also encouraged to contribute to the issue with their own articles thus providing youth perspective to the urban trends. Stories to City News are also very welcome.

We cordially encourage all interested cities and partners to contribute.
