Klaipėda City Municipal Council decided to declare 2024 as the Year of Lighthouses in Klaipėda.

The impetus for the idea to declare 2024 as the Year of Lighthouses in the port city is the fact that this year marks the 140th anniversary of the lighting of the White Lighthouse on the North Pier.

A special program of events is being prepared for the Year of the Lighthouses in Klaipėda, which includes initiatives implemented by the municipality’s budgetary and public cultural and educational institutions, the Klaipėda State Seaport Directorate, and projects that won the competition for partial funding of cultural and art projects. It is expected that the events of the Year of Lighthouses in Klaipėda will contribute to increasing the tourist attractiveness of the city and will become a great inspiration to actualize lighthouses – extremely significant infrastructure objects for ports, and to tell their history.
