9. JEWISH CULTURAL DAYS KATERYNA OSTROYSKA ENSEMBLE
“Blondzhendike Lider” is an album conceived as a “modern Jewish work of art”, but what is a Jewish work of art? Imagine two people, one of whom has spent his entire life in Brooklyn and the other in Vitebsk. Should the two meet by chance, they would find out that they ate the same food and that their mothers switched them in the same words and praised them. Another thing in common is multiculturalism, because both the Belarusian and the American also have the culture of their home country. The Yiddish language itself provides the best symbol for it, because it is based on the Middle High German and is noted in Hebrew letters.
