Ana Tijoux has been called Latin America’s answer to Lauryn Hill, but her voice is entirely her own. For over two decades, she has created music that refuses to compromise on either rhythm or message. From her first lines with the group Makiza in Santiago in the 90s to her breakthrough with her autobiographical album in 1977, she has consistently avoided shortcuts and comfortable formulations. She moves between genres with one leg in poetry and the other in resistance.
