Author visit: Tina Harnesk

Tina Harnesk debuted in 2022 with the novel “People who cut in the snow”. The book tells the story of the Swedish state’s forced displacement of the Karesuando Sámi a hundred years ago through the story of Máriddja and Biera, an elderly couple who live outside the official community.
The book also tells the story of the Sámi woman Risten, who was forced to renounce her entire Sámi origin to save herself and her son from her son’s violent father. Risten was forced to cut off her roots and the book describes how this makes her sick. In the fall of 2023, the book was voted Book of the Year by the members of Bonniers Bokklubbar.
