The playwright of a small Estonian municipality, Virmaline, decides to bring a musical dedicated to the War of Independence on stage. But just as many men didn’t bother to go to war at the time, it’s now almost impossible to lure them into the show. That’s why the coarse ends up in the hands of women this time. In the light of the musical’s stage, the pain of today’s rural life – a daily place of concern in the form of decaying institutions and their facilities for repair, the emptying of rural areas, passive family relations, intolerance to differences and a sense of belonging and the search for identity – also unravel.
