Eimuntas Nekrošius’s theater performance “MASTER OF HUNGER”

2025-04-17

This is a real directorial gem, reflecting the late work of Eimuntas Nekrošius. The director is extremely demanding in his work, like Kafka himself, who is able to find and not miss a single meaningful thought, phrase, or word, and he uses suggestive, open, theatrical means to immerse the actors in the very essence of the story and allows the viewer not only to understand, but to feel with all his soul what the creator is going through in his hours of glory, how he fights for his idea with the audience who do not understand him and the impresario who manipulates his work. As in the story, Nekrošius’s play contains a lot of self-irony, subtle, intellectual humor that brings a smile to everyone.

The main role of the Master of Hunger is created by Viktorija Kuodytė, who has been performing in Nekrošius’s plays since 1994 (Laura in “The Minor Tragedies”, Irina in “The Three Sisters”, Ophelia in “Hamlet”, Witch in “Macbeth”, etc.). She is assisted by Vaidas Vilius, Vygandas Vadeiša and Genadijus Virkovskis, who create the characters of the artist’s environment.
