French music, with its richness of nuance and multi-layeredness, always offers new searches and discoveries, both listening and playing. The program was born around the variations of Fauré – the composer’s approach to harmony and inventive musical ideas have attracted me for years. As a lecturer, composer and pianist, Fauré has had a strong influence on several subsequent generations, shaping musical aesthetics in many aspects. To name just a few of his renowned students, Ravel, Enescu and Boulanger could be pointed out, but the wider impact was significantly beyond the circle of students.
