The annual Greifswald Bach Week, which takes place in June, is the oldest music festival in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Founded in 1946, the Festival of Sacred Music in the North with its numerous concerts and other events is a permanent fixture in the cultural calendar of the university and Hanseatic city of Greifswald. The Greifswald Bach Week is organised by the Protestant Church of the North in cooperation with the University of Greifswald and with the support of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the Hanseatic City of Greifswald and the Pomeranian Church District.
