For the first time, the Słupsk museum is showcasing ancient artifacts from Mesopotamia. The oldest of these—two small foundation cones and a fragment of a cuneiform tablet—date back over 4,150 years and are associated with Prince Gudea. From approximately 2141 to 2122 BCE, he was the ruler of the Sumerian city-state of Lagash (located in southern modern-day Iraq). Today, his numerous statues, preserved in whole or in fragments, can be seen in various museums around the world; the most interesting of these will be discussed during the lecture.
