Musica Vitae and the composers of the future

2024-05-17

Musica Vitae’s composition project Future Composers turns 27, but the meeting with the composers and the never-before-heard music is still as exciting every time. The project began in 1996, and was then the first of its kind, which has since gained many followers among the country’s music institutions. Every year, two student composers from the country’s three largest music schools are invited to write directly for Musica Vitae’s crew.

More than 150 new works have reached the audience’s curious ears for the first time, and several of the then young composition students are now established and frequently performed composers, not infrequently in Musica Vitae’s repertoire: Jacob Mühlrad, Maria Lithell Flyg, Andrea Tarrodi, Benjamin Staern, Malin Bång, Tebogo Monnakgotla, Britta Byström, Albert Schnelzer. Conductor Michael Bartosch can be called the project’s permanent conductor and studio instructor. Michael, who has been with all but the first year, is a force as important to us as the project is to music Sweden.
