Our little PRL – New Theatre

2026-02-22 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Iza and Witek take on this challenge, deciding to pretend for six months that we still have the crownless eagle and the clause of friendship with the Soviet Union in our constitution, and that Ludwik Waryński is still staring at us from a hundred-zloty banknote. So they move into a concrete slab apartment, swapping laptops for typewriters, GPS for old maps, and cell phones for rotary dial phones. They switch from Ikea to furniture from the Wyszków Furniture Factory, from an Opel Astra to a FIAT 126P, from olive oil to pork lard, and from sushi to beef cutlets. They try to redeem a ration card for beef on the bone, trade ten kilos of newspapers for toilet paper, and regularly cut off their water and electricity. In short, they’re transported to the Polish People’s Republic. They want to examine contemporary Poland through the lens of the Polish People’s Republic and consider how much of the old system remains with us today.
