PORT 24 | Las Itinerantes | JMO

JMO | Senegal, Switzerland, Israel

The musical association, whose main guiding motif is the depiction of the art of storytelling, is made up of three musicians – Jan Galega Brönnimann (Switzerland), Moussa Cissokho (Senegal) and Omri Hason (Israel). The trio creates a titillating tension between traditional and contemporary music from Africa, Europe and the Middle East. The sparkling sound effect of the Kora (African harp with 26 strings) meets the warm tones of the bass clarinet and the oriental percussion instruments in a perfect interplay.

“Tandoula Tala” is the title of the three artists’ second music recording album. It means “No borders!” in the Mandinka language spoken in Gambia, Mali and Senegal. The songs are written by the musicians themselves and reflect their different backgrounds. In their memorable concerts, the trio oscillates between magically meditative moments and rhythmically unsettling heights. Listening to JMO’s music is an unforgettable experience, thanks to the fusion of different musical traditions into one sound, the band’s unique composition and imaginative melodies and rhythms.

Les Itinérantes  | In France

The members of Les Itinérantes met in musical theater studies, meeting with various experiences in early music, jazz and world music. This resulted in a combination of several styles, which has allowed the ensemble’s repertoire to include eleven musical styles, nine centuries and 19 languages. True to their band name, “Travellers”, they travel from one time and place to another, creating images, stories and feelings with their voices. From the Middle Ages to Edith Piaf and Corsican polyphony, the trio passionately explores the infinite possibilities of the human voice and the way languages of all kinds resonate in music and within us.
