In Sallinen’s At the Palace Gates, percussion and brass are responsible for the adventure as we move through the palace’s winding corridors and cool gardens. The evening’s soloist is Malmö Symphony Orchestra’s own Samuli Örnströmer, who in Sallinen’s cello concerto gets to show both his most romantic and expressive register. The evening ends with a real fairy tale, Scheherazade by Rimsky-Korsakov.
