Starting Blocks. A Story in Three Acts – Marcin Pawlukiewicz’s Photography Exhibition
The world between concrete slabs, courtyards, chaotic greenery and crude playgrounds did not seem very colorful. Small apartments, poor prospects of the 80s and 90s and uncertainty combined with hope for a better future. I grew up in this space, which although did not offer much, offered too many stimuli and impressions. For my entire generation of visual artists, it became a childhood training ground, an endless space of imagination and activity shaping the adult perception of the world.
According to statistics, 40% of Poles live or have lived in apartment blocks. What percentage of them are artists or creators? I wanted to ask these artists and creators from the Podlaskie Voivodeship about the space in which they grew up and what influence it had on their later activities.
