Tomasz Kulka “Czarnota” Exhibition

In times of epidemics, people have always sought ways to keep evil at bay. Small flaps installed in the doors of medieval houses were meant to protect against the plague, or perhaps something else entirely. The titular “czarnota” is an ancient word meaning dirt, dust, or grime—but also misfortune, a state of ignorance and stupor. Something that afflicts us when we’re careless, or precisely when everything seems fine.
