Yesterday, today, tomorrow. Perspectives on the collection of the Kiel City and Maritime Museum

Since 1965, the Kiel City and Shipping Museum has collected more than 45,000 historical objects, building a knowledge store of the city’s history. Now the museum invites you to a joint reflection on the beginnings and development of the collection and asks about its future orientation: With which objects can the history of Kiel be documented and told even more diversely?
The exhibition draws the spectrum from treasures and everyday objects from the founding years to the recent new additions. But why do museums even collect, and what happens to the objects when they come into the collection? In a workshop room, visitors can look behind the scenes, accompany objects on their way to the museum collection and try out the different work steps of the inventory themselves.
