The Swedish Defence University’s Centre for Societal Security (CTSS) launch the online application site for the first course in the international programme “Strategic leadership toolbox for resilience-building, peace and security” (SLP1 2023). The call is open until November 13, 2022.
Course Purpose
The purpose of this asynchronic and synchronic online course (SLP1) is to provide a common foundation for the Strategic Leadership in the Global Societal Security Programme (SLP). This course provides information about strategic leadership and resilience-building as well as diagnostic and analytical tools for strengthening them. In addition, the purpose is to help participants become better informed about human security, international stability and sustainability. Furthermore, the course aims to create a basis for discussing comprehensive security concepts, approaches, legal frameworks, trends, considerations and challenges as well as the key actors. The course participants will also receive information about the contexts of peace, crisis, grey zone, hybrid warfare, conflict and post-conflict/crisis.
Learning Objectives
This course has four learning objectives in that after the completion of the course the participants will be able to:
1. Motivate why and for whom a given scenario situation is a crisis.
2. Analyze a given scenario using strategic leadership analytical tools.
3. Conduct a gender analysis, utilizing the NATO Gender Analysis Guide.
4. Identify the key elements regarding the prohibition on the use of force in international law.
Who is eligible to apply?
The “Strategic Leadership in Global Societal Security” Programme is Sweden’s contribution to NATO’s Partnership for Peace (PfP) programme and is primarily open for applicants from PfP and NATO member countries and key organizations working within these networks. If the number of participants from these networks is not filled, applicants from other countries may be considered.
Applications are welcome from individuals who are actively engaged in and working with societal security issues, including leaders, policy-makers and decision-makers from government and non-government agencies, regional and international organizations, military and law enforcement agencies, and private actors as well as academics. Proficiency in spoken and written English is required.
Course fees
There is no course fee for those who are selected to participate; however, participants are responsible for covering any associated costs related to participation.
Course format
This course is run as a remote online course (about 175 hours) using the eLearning platform Canvas with 17 synchronic course sessions in Zoom (see exact days and timings below) where the course participants will meet and work with each other, the course team, researchers, teachers, and experts.
