Greifswald is working with several cities from UBC, also UBC Sustainable Cities Commission and scientific institutions from the Baltic Sea region on a project to promote sustainable urban mobility. The SUMPs for BSR project is funded by the Interreg Baltic Sea Region programme.
Cities in the Baltic Sea region are actively working on the transition to sustainable mobility and efficient urban planning. Car traffic is preferred in existing plans. The project supports cities in switching their planning practices to human-centered sustainable urban mobility planning, with a focus on active mobility modes and promoting an active and healthy lifestyle of citizens. At the same time, emissions from transport are reduced.
In Greifswald, two measures are to be implemented with the support of the project:
- establishment of a modal filter to reduce vehicle transit traffic in Friedrich-Loeffler-Straße and Domstraße as a traffic test (measure from the traffic concept downtown 2021)
- optimization of road safety for foot and bicycle traffic at the intersection Goethestraße/Bahnhofstraße/Gützkower Straße/Fleischerstraße.
