At the previous meeting of UBC Youthful Cities Commission (YCC) in Gdansk earlier this year, the participants agreed there is still a lot of space for mutual learning and experience exchange between the UBC member cities in the field of youth (and youth work in particular). Therefore, the Commission is now renewing its working format to having face-to-face meetings twice per year. Thanks to the initiative of the city of Espoo, the commission’s meeting took place in Southern Finland on 5th- 7th November.
During the meeting YCC members explored the diverse landscape of youth services provided by the city of Espoo and visited some of the infrastructure for youth (like Ohjaamotalo one stop guidance centre, youth space Pointti in Sello Library), as well as EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art.
There was also plenty of opportunity for mutual learning based on the interests of participants and their reflection on Espoo experience (outreach and detached youth work, youth participation, leisure activities for children and youth, youth work in schools were among the addressed topics).
During the meeting commission’s priorities and action plan for 2025 were discussed based on the expectations the involved cities. As we will continue working on the action plan throughout the next month, input from other UBC cities is also welcomed to make sure the commission meets their needs as well.
