History of Martimoava peatland protection area, lecture

On 7 October 2025, at 5 p.m. at the Cultural Centre Stage, a lecture will showcase the rich history of the martimoaping peatland from the Stone Age to the present.
The lecture is a long trip to Martimoaava’s swamps and forests, which have served for thousands of years as fishing areas and habitats for the area’s inhabitants. Jaegers and pirated caravanns have also taken advantage of wilderness in the area with their secret tours. The lecture also opens up the development of the area as a popular hiking destination and how the area has become one of the most important peatland protection areas in Northern Finland.
