Malmö möts – A week for democracy

2026-06-12 8:00 am to 2026-06-18 5:00 pm

Malmö möts (Malmö connects) is a democracy week when the city comes together to focus on democracy and explore the future. From 12–18 June, Malmö möts invites people to meetings, conversations, and experiences across the city. The programme combines dialogue and knowledge with experiences that move, engage, and invite both laughter and reflection, through gatherings that take place throughout the city and welcome more people to participate

12–18 June, across Malmö

Malmö möts is a politically non-aligned event with the aim of strengthening democracy through dialogue and encounters. During 12–18 June, Malmö is filled with conversations, activities, and experiences. Events and programme activities take place at venues across the city’s cultural scene, parks, universities, libraries, and community meeting places. From 15–17 June, parts of the programme are brought together in a major conference at Malmö Live. The conference is free of charge and open to everyone.

Social Issues in focus

The programme is based on some of the most pressing issues of our time: What is democracy, and why is it under threat? What can we do about it, and how can we keep society united in a time of change? These questions run throughout Malmö möts and are connected to three guiding values: courage, hope, and new solutions. Together, they create a common thread through themes that address:

  • Democracy & Human Rights
  • Safety & Resilience
  • Young People & the Future
  • Media, Freedom of Expression & New Technology
  • Sustainable Development
  • Knowledge & Educationg

Target group

Malmö möts is aimed at people who want to engage in societal issues; young people, as the next generation of democracy bearers; researchers and universities who contribute knowledge and perspectives; and politicians and public officials who seek dialogue and development.
