TantsuMenu dance performance SOLEDAD
Flamenco culture and modern dance meet in the performance “Soledad”. There are musicians from Spain, Canada and Estonia on stage, and together with an Estonian flamenco dancer we move through different stages and moods of loneliness.
“Soledad” or “Loneliness” is a play about the freedom that comes with being alone and the barriers we have to put between ourselves and others. Although free in our limited space, we come face to face with ourselves, in its most direct and raw form. Isolation in its duality can be soothing and unsettling, a refuge as well as a drive to seek an escape from it. As a (flamenco) artist, spending hours in the training room and honing every little movement or sound nuance alone, it is often necessary to deal with your own doubts and fears. All this in order to meet others of your kind on stage, to create and enjoy together for a moment, and then to go your own way once again, back to where you are already alone at home. But what is it that makes a person permanently separate himself from others?
