World famous arctic icebreaker Sampo and unique Snow castle are situated in Kemi. They attract tens of thousand of people to Kemi every winter.  Arctic archipelago offers water sport activities for visitors. Kemi is the place where nightles night and Northern Lights began. In 2018 we will open year-around Snow castle and introduce more unique experiences for tourists.

Kemi is the centre of trade and services in Sea Lapland. The biggest entrepreneurs are the paper mills Stora Enso, Metsä-Group, the Outokumpu Corp and the Outokumpu Kemi Mine.

Educational services in the region of Kemi are provided by Lappia Vocational College, Kemi-Tornio University of Applied Sciences, the Kivalo Institute as well as the Kemi unit of the University of Lapland and the University of Oulu.
